We all need healing. We know what a broken heart feels like. We see the loss of limbs caused by war. The cancer that won’t go away.
Scripture reminds us that God is Jehovah Rapha. He is the Lord who can heal. He doesn’t promise healing in every situation. Sometimes He allows sickness. But other times He brings healing, in order to bring glory to His name.
He said to Israel, “If you will diligently obey the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, then all the diseases that I brought on the Egyptians I will not bring on you, for I, the Lord, am your healer.” (Exodus 15:26)
Just as God was the one who could deliver Israel from sickness, He can heal people today. He is all-powerful. His divinity includes the ability to remove sickness.
It’s important to understand He doesn’t promise to heal in every situation. He allows for there to be sickness on certain occasions (see Job). He permits cancer, pain, and brokenness.
In these situations that don’t make sense, know that He understands your pain. He understands your hurt. The Shepherd cares for you. He’s there with you through it all. Closer than you’ll ever know.
